Below are pics of a PCB that was taken from a spa that was fitted by a spa company with no formal qualifications to carry out the work what so ever.

Installing, servicing and repairing spas or hot tubs, is a job or a profession that requires a great deal of training and expertise and it seems that it has been assumed it can be done by any one who wants to have a go. We come across so many spas that have been maintained by people with no electrical experience and no training in how tubs operate. people assume that connecting a spa is just 3 cables and a little bit of know how as to how the control panel works.

This is most certinally not the case as the pics below will show….

The PCB was taken from a spa that had been fitted by a company who sent out one of there staff who has fitted numerous tubs, and carry out regular maintenance on spas. Connecting the cable to the spa is one thing, but the problem with this spa was that the earth was not tested and was not even connected properly the other end, so the PCB just burnt it self away and luckily the customer smelt the burning whilst walking past the spa and wasn’t sitting in it, and turned off the spa straight away or any number of things might have happened.

Water and electric coming together can be very dangerous if not carried out properly, and it does not just stop at the spa being connected on installation. If you have a pump changed, A PCB Changed, or even the heater…. it MUST be tested and checked that it is done properly by a trained engineer who knows HOW to carry out these checks and not just someone who is willing to have a go.

You would not ask a brick layer to service your boiler, why would you have a some one with no training in the field to service your spa?

REMEMBER…. Ask what experience the engineer has and the training they have received, we are not talking about rocket science but when it comes to electrical components on your spa, don’t take risks… Make sure your spa is maintained by a company who have taken the time to invest in training and have the experience behind them to ensure your spa or Hot tub is serviced and repaired properly and you will get the optimum from it.
